Luckily, Mike and I have 2 1/2 bathrooms in our townhouse. We don't really share a bathroom. I use the one in our master bedroom and he uses the bathroom in the guest bedroom (Lola's room).
I found this craft idea on Pinterest and decided that it would be a good idea to try:
Materials:
1 picture frame
1 piece of steel sheet
1 can of magnetic paint
1 yard of fabric
1 can of spray paint
Holders for brushes/eyeliners/mascara....etc.
Gorilla Glue
Spray Adhesive
Scissors
Magnets
Hot Glue Gun
Makeup/Cosmetic Brushes
I went to a thrift store to look for my frame. Luckily I found a mirror that had a nice wooden frame that was able to fit in my space I was designating for my board. The frame measured 16 x 20. My bathroom is an olive green color with a palm tree decor and brown accents. I also have some other gold picture frames hung up in the bathroom. I decided to spray paint the frame and the holders, gold. I used left over gold spray paint that I had from my wedding crafting.
Next, I took out the mirror of the frame and flipped the mirror on the reverse side to paint with a smooth surface. My steel sheet, I bought from home depot, was a 12 x 18. I had a little bit of an edge. This is when I decided to purchase a can of magnetic paint, found on Amazon. The paint isn't the strongest for magnetization but I worked for my purpose. I painted the back side of the mirror with the paint. When dry, I took the steel sheet and glued it to the back of the mirror using Gorilla Glue.
When the mirror had now been transformmed into a magnetic surface (dry of course). I cut the fabric, I got a Joann's Fabric along with the holders, to the dimensions I needed for the board. I then used a spray adhesive to attach the fabric to the magnetic board. I folded over the corners in the back and then proceeded by placing the fabric covered board into the frame. Now I have a designed board to hang up in my bathroom.
I took my makeup and added a magnet to the back of each of the items. Some items need more than one magnet to stay to the board. I also added magnets to the holders I spray painted to hold on my brushes to the board.

My makeup added to my board to create a more organized space. Still needs to be hung on the wall. |
Very cool idea. I will put it up on the wall for you. You are so crafty.
