Thanksgiving is Thursday!
This year I will not be making my first Thanksgiving dinner. Instead Mike and I will both be attending dinner with my parents on Thursday at Shula's, a restaurant in downtown Norfolk,VA. My parents started the tradition of going out to dinner about 5 years ago. Why? Well my mother's birthday is November 27 and my dad's birthday is November 30. My mom decided she did not want to cook on her birthday and decided she would love to have a family meal out, so she found this restaurant and the family has fallen in love with it since. We used to have a big Thanksgiving feast at the house when my 91 year old grandmother was younger and able to cook. She was another reason why cooking at home wasn't the best because she isn't able to do the things she used to. I would have cooked however I am still very new in my cooking days and well I was busy with college during the transition.
Why am I not cooking? Well this is good question. I kinda want to cook this year, however if Mike and I both invited our families over for dinner the space in our townhouse would be tight. We have a small kitchen that barely holds the two of us cooking and we do not have a dining room table, only a high bistro table that seats two. I was NOT going to have our family eat dinner on the couch or floor.
We will be having a second Thanksgiving feast on Saturday with Mike's family. Their stove recently gave out on them so they had to buy a new one. The new one wouldn't be in on time for the feast so we moved that dinner to Saturday. Everything fell into place because Mike and I were very mixed in our Thanksgiving plans because of our families. Next summer my family plans to move out to Arizona, where my mom grew up. So this would be the last Thanksgiving I would be able to spend with them in Virginia for a while.
Ok, now off of the dinner topic. What am I thankful for this year?
1. My new husband. We have now been married for 6 months, officially on the 19! Plus on the 26th of November it marks the 4th year we have been together. We both are strong supporters of each other and I am very blessed to have him by my side.
2. My family. I am always thankful of my family. This year it has really hit me how I appreciate what they do for me. I have become more independent since I have been married and I try not depend on them all the time. I appreciate that they only live an hour away and I can see them whenever I would like. When they move to Arizona the visits will be less frequent and I have to travel thousands of miles.
3.My friends. They have been a great support in my life. Some friends live far away from me and others are closer but when we get together we have a wonderful time. I am very lucky to have each and every one of them.
4. My job. I would consider myself fortunate that I was able to get a job right out of college. I graduated on a Friday and my first day was that following Monday.
5. My education. I was just accepted into Johns Hopkins University. I will be getting a Master's degree in Biotechnology with a concentration in biodefense. Unfortunately, I have to take out more loans to help pay for my education, but to me its worth it. Can't wait to start in January. :)
There are the 5 things I am most grateful for this year. There are many others but I won't list all of them. I pretty much grateful for my whole life as well as everything and everyone it!
Have a Happy Thanksgiving! Gobble Gobble.
